100 DAYS OF SCHOOL

We dressed as 'old people' and had a blast doing a 100 second challenge!

We then tried to make as many words as possible out of our letters "One Hundred" and we had a 100 word count story writing contest!

We did 100 Math problems and some Dot-to-Dot pictures. Then we made a prediction about which 100 objects would make the longest line! We set out to test our theory!

We discovered that our 100 Popsicles made the longest line!

We ended the day by watching 101 Dalmatians

What an excellent way to spend our 100th day at school :D

Show N' Tell

We have started our show n' tell presentations and so far they have been fantastic!

MONDAY:
Our first presentation was about spiders! We even got to see a live one, the student captured one and has been keeping it as a pet over the summer. Look at the awesome diorama the student made to showcase the different spiders they learned about! also a very nicely drawn scrapbook of items that interested the student while one vacation.

Next was a presentation on the volcanic rock found near Mt. Fuji while on vacation to Japan!
The type that was collected was Scoria. The student told us about a myth associated with this type of volcanic rock- If you touch it, it will give you energy and confidence!

Our last presentation was a soft horse toy won at a carnival game - "Wheel of Luck", while on a trip to Gokyo (not Tokyo)! Gokyo is a small village in the Himalayas of Nepal.

TUESDAY:
We had a "Nature Box", complete with a live snail! This presentation also involved a beloved stuff toy and a journal book of adventures had during the summer!

Our next one involved dinosaurs! An ongoing obsession with this student! Look at the artistic skill involved in this drawing!

The next was a lovely scrapbook of adventures in New York city! As well as a stop in Japan for some cultural exploration.

The last presentation was all about the Disney Resort in Shanghai! Shanghai Disneyland Resort features traditional and newly created themed lands!
WEDNESDAY:
We were treated into a close up look of  the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, King's Canyon, Sequoia, Black Volcano, Walnut Canyon National Park! Look at the giant pine-cone that was brought back!

We had another "Nature Box" that was a little more local and had a collection of items from the back yard garden, accompanied by a scrapbook of  pictures from their summer holiday

Last we had a World Cup fan present their collection for the class! All the way from Russia came a football, a cap and a scarf!

THURSDAY:
We had an adorable plush sheep come in today, as well as some photo's from vacation, last was a box with a leaf that was collected while on a walk of the neighborhood.

Next was some very well done scrapbook pages, highlighting this students summer adventures!

Last presentation was a old and very loved stuffed dog, some Lego creations built over the summer and a collection of weeds pulled from the garden!
FRIDAY:
We had some great photo's from this students summer, as well as Bible study notes that the student took during the summer break.

Next was an amazing and very detailed "Nature Box", this student obviously enjoyed the task of building this project! It was also accompanied by a journal book of some of the summer fun that was enjoyed during the break.

MONDAY:
We had a lovely how to draw book shared, a bike and a nightlight that a student wanted to brag about during show n' tell

We had another excellent 'Nature Box' shared with the class, with seashells and pine-cones collected while on vacation

We had another student attend the Disney Resort in China! brought back some Mini ears and photo's of the time spent in this magical place!

TUESDAY:
A wonderful dream catcher, a purse with a prize in it, and some photo's of family made a great presentation by this student

Next we had a very interactive presentation with a sticker reward if the students could guess the correct answer to a mystery 'Nature Box' Quiz! A very original idea for show n' tell

Last we had a photo share from a safari! With creatures from the deep, an elephant show, and a kangaroo jump!

Thank you! For all your hard work and practice over the summer putting these pieces together!

July 16th

Welcome Back!

We will start the day with an 'Egg Drop Challenge'! Students will work in groups to problem solve and to build something to protect their egg from a drop , so that it doesn't break!

They will use a variety of recycled items in order to make something to protect their egg, They will record their plan before building the design and record observations during the actual drop! Let's see what table group will win!

Examples:

Here is how they turned out!

This one broke 😢

I think that's a very successful challenge 😄

We then made 'Flipbooks' about our summer adventures! We tried making our own with just cut paper, I think sticky notes would have worked better!

We will finish off the day with some Team Challenges

We started with an obstacle called 'Lava', each team was given two pieces of cardboard and stood on one side of the hallway. They had to figure out how to get everyone across to the other side. They couldn't throw the boards, they could only pass them and only two people were allowed on each board. (Hint: Someone had to go back each time to get another team member). If someone fell off or they couldn't reach the board/pass it, they had to go back to the start!

Next was a good old fashioned 'Cup Race', the students faced off against each other and used chopsticks to get as many small pieces from a central bowl into their own cup, in under 1 min!

Last was a 'Pipe Cleaner Bracelet', students had to get the loop shaped cereal pieces onto the pipe cleaner with only one hand!

It was great to see students encouraging each other and cheering for their teams, I heard a few "Good try" said to team members even when they didn't win that match!

I look forward to more team building and team activities like these, this semester!
